Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs) specialise in clinical exercise prescription to help assist with lifestyle modification programs for people who have or at risk of developing chronic disease. Their training includes expertise in the physiology of exercise as well as behaviour change, combining to help you manage your health independently.
AEPs are allied health professionals who can be found working in many settings including hospitals, community health centres and in private practice. A selection of private health insurers, Medicare and Department of Veterans Affairs recognize that AEPs prescribe exercise to help people with injuries, persisting pain, chronic disease, depression and weight management.
A GP may refer you to an AEP for a number of reasons including to improve your quality of care, to improve your quality of life, and to provide support to you whilst safely increasing your physical activity levels.
